Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) – Middle East
Middle East PDPL frameworks, particularly in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain, hint at a shift in the region towards global privacy standards. The focus of these laws is on the human right to privacy in the digital economy through controls over data collection, processing, and cross-border transfers.
What is PDPL Compliance?
To put it differently, PDPL grants the right to privacy in the treatment of personal data made available to companies or state bodies. It lays down principles for consent, rights of the data subject, and the prohibition of international data transfers without sufficient safeguards in place.
The objective of the law is to harmonize the Middle Eastern legal systems with the international standards, thereby creating a trustworthy atmosphere for inter-country business transactions and at the same time safeguarding the region’s cultural values of confidentiality and respect.
