Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) – Brazil
The principles of Brazil’s data protection regulation LGPD are predominantly similar to those of the EU’s GDPR but at the same time, it has been adjusted to suit the digital landscape of Latin America. The law is applied to every single organization dealing with the data of people residing in Brazil, regardless of where the organization is located.
What is LGPD Compliance?
To put it simply, LGPD is a law that prohibits the misuse of your personal data in social media, e-commerce, or the government, which can be done without your consent. The individuals have the rights to access, modify, delete, and transfer their data. The companies must provide justification for their data collection and will be liable for the misuse of the data without proper authorization.
The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) is the body that supervises, identifies, and enforces the law. With LGPD, Brazil is not only setting a standard for the entire region concerning privacy-oriented governance but also gaining trust from the consumers and being in line with international trade.
